About this picture
A great horned owl sits inside a hollow in an old oak tree. Its eyes are bright amber and it looks straight at the viewer. Its feathers are brown, grey and cream, with dark bars and spots. The bark of the tree is rough, deep and grey-brown, with patches of snow and small lichen.
The low sun gives the scene a warm golden light. It touches the owl's face, chest and the edges of the bark. Behind the tree, a frozen river winds through white snow. Pale mist rests over the forest and hills, and frost covers the thin bare branches. The colours are soft, cold and calm.
How to play
Choose how many pieces you want, then press Play. Drag a piece with your mouse or your finger. When it comes close to its neighbour, the two pieces click together.
Many players start with the edges: "Edges only" shows just the border pieces. "Preview" shows the whole picture, and "Ghost" puts a soft copy of it under the board. Your game saves by itself, so you can stop and come back later. There is no rush: take your time.
Tips
- Start with the owl's amber eyes, which are the brightest spot in the picture.
- Next, work on the rough bark on the left, sorting pieces by their dark and light tones.
- Save the pale sky and snowy river for last, since many pieces there look alike.
